EE reports close on 15 January: are you ready?

What designated employers should settle before the online reporting window closes.

By Terrance Thabang Baloyi · · Employment equity

The deadline for online employment equity reports is 15 January 2027, but the date that matters is mid-December. Designated employers must report on their employment equity progress every year. Online reports for the 2026 reporting period can be submitted from 1 September and close on 15 January 2027, on the Department of Employment and Labour's online system. Reports submitted by hand are due much earlier, on the first working day of October.

The holiday season sits between you and that deadline. The people you need for the last steps, the committee that must be consulted and the person who signs, are the people most likely to be on leave in the first week of January. So the practical cut-off is mid-December. Settle these before then.

  • Your employment equity plan. Check that it is current and that the report measures progress against the goals it sets.
  • Your workforce profile. Make sure your headcount by occupational level, race, gender and disability is complete and reconciles to your payroll.
  • Consultation. Keep the minutes and attendance of your employment equity committee meetings. Consultation is part of the process itself, and the minutes are how you show it happened.
  • Sign-off. Know who will sign the report, and get it in front of them before they go on leave. Every year we see reports held up at this last step.
